The owners of this story-and-a-half
stucco bungalow approached SALA
Architects when it was clear their
family was outgrowing their existing home.
Living in the Fulton neighborhood, an epicenter
in the fervent debate over teardowns
and super-sized renovations, the couple
was determined to make their expansion
accommodate their needs without dominating
the existing neighborhood fabric.
The solution was a complete overhaul of
the existing main level and a new second
story addition that doubles the home’s
existing living space without pushing
against setbacks. The owners made sustainable
choices like durable fiber-cement
siding and trim, recyclable metal roofing,
and low-VOC finish materials.
