This was an urban lot infill for soon-tobe
empty nesters, where the tendency
might be to close down the house
to the outside to create interior privacy.
However, the architect design team offered
another solution that provided privacy yet
developed a strong connection from the
indoors to the outdoors. The amount of
open glass looking through the front and
back porches into “outdoor rooms” makes
these connections. Window treatments
with just the right amount of density are
integrated into the architecture to allow for
evening privacy without completely blocking
the flow of space from inside to out.
The living, dining, and kitchen areas are
open to each other, maximizing light and
views while retaining defined character.
