This family had a 1950s splitlevel
that just wasn’t compatible
with the way they lived. The new
design improves the flow, adds space,
and becomes kid-friendly with the new
great room, four-season porch, and patio
off the back of the house, along with a
new mudroom space and remodeled front
entry. Adding onto the back of the house
improved circulation and allowed for a
play area, built-in office, and fireplace
sitting area all on the main level—and
a stronger connection to the backyard.
Incorporating environmentally friendly
design was a high priority under the
guidance of the Minnesota GreenStar
remodeling program.
