Designated a National Historic Landmark, the Veblen Farmstead is named after noted economist, social critic and Norwegian immigrant, Thorstein Veblen. The home was constructed in 1867, was later renovated throughout Veblen’s formative years and is where he spent seven years recovering from malaria. In 1993 the home underwent an exacting restoration to its period significance (1890) and features an interior showcase of the carpentry skills of Veblen’s father. The Preservation Alliance of Minnesota holds a façade easement to further preserve this historic property.
